UPDATE: A 19-year-old man has been arrested for carrying a gun on the campus of Park Vista elementary school in Opelousas.
Police say Travyone Adams has been charged with carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon by a student or non-student on school property at school-sponsored functions, or in a firearm-free zone.
Police say Adams is being held at the St Landry Parish Jail.
No other details were released.
ORIGINAL: Police found a gun Monday morning at Park Vista Elementary in Opelousas.
Authorities say the search for the firearm started after officers arrested a person Sunday night for trespassing at the school. While searching the suspect, they discovered ammunition on suspect. That led to the search of the school. Police credit their K-9 Officer Beau for finding the firearm.
The St. Landry Parish School Superintendent was notified about the situation.
Details on the suspect and charges will be determined today.
