UPDATE: Lafayette police say the suspect who barricaded himself inside a home on Kattie Drive has been detained and is in police custody. He has been identified as 36 year old Shawn Chaisson.
Public Information Officer Karl Ratcliff says SWAT officers used a number of tactics, including a bean bag round , aimed at getting the suspect to surrender peacefully, but those attempts did not work. Police did not say how Chaisson surrendered but reported there were no injuries.
He was transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation and then transported to LPCC and booked on one count of Home Invasion.
ORIGINAL: Lafayette, La. (KLFY) — Lafayette Police are on the scene of a barricade situation in the 1100 block of Kattie Drive.
Police say they were responding to a buglary in progress when the suspect inside stated that he was armed.
Public Information Officer Karl Ratcliff says police believe the suspect is an ex-husband or ex-boyfriend of the home dweller.
The Police Department SWAT investigative unit is on the scene and using all available resources for a peaceful surrender, according to Ratcliff.
