LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – It’s been nearly a year, since the topic of the LessPay Motel has come up.

Residents who live and shop nearby are starting to question if the city is working to buy the place and then build something else.

The proposed idea was for the Lafayette Consolidated Government to buy the property and build a police substation.  Recently, there has been no activity and no word about where the plan stands or if there is any plan at all.

Residents who travel through the intersection of University Avenue and Cameron Street say they were hopeful but now question if anything will happen. “Just do what you got to do and work with it. Try and show some effort or something. Don’t just say oh yeah we are going to take care of it and then boom it’s just like spitting in the wind,” adds resident E.P. Woods.

Woods says he has lived in Lafayette for some thirty plus years. Woods notes that he has seen businesses come and go. He says what bothers him is that for some the come and go is quicker than others. “It doesn’t take that long. If it’s something they want it’s there. When it comes to you know a need they get amnesia. That’s all I got to say,” says Woods.

Other residents have more to say. The LessPay Motel is an active and open business. Some people stay at the motel.

“Get rid of an eyesore,” says a resident.

“Don’t just talk about it. Do something. You all got time,” says resident.

The Lafayette Consolidated Government states that they don’t have an update right now. The same response from a representative from the LessPay Motel.

Councilman Pat Lewis says he’s currently meeting with residents to create a plan that works best for the neighborhood and bring viable businesses to the Four Corners. Lewis says he will be meeting with Mayor-President Joel Robideaux who recently attended a mayoral conference.
