Opelousas, La. (OPD)- UPDATE: Williams has turned himself in.
ORIGINAL: The Opelousas Police Department is looking for a person involved in the illegal use of a weapon in the area of Mia & Lastrapes St. in Opelousas.
Officers responded to a complaint of a person that was in the area illegally discharging a firearm. Officers attempted to make contact with a person in the area who matched the description given by witnesses, and the person later identified as Willie R. Williams fled from officers on foot.
Officers pursued him as Williams he ran through the area and into an apartment in the area. Williams was seen carrying a back pack as described by witnesses. Williams was seen later exiting the apartment without the backpack. Officers then secured the apartment and located the back pack that contained a nine mm pistol. Williams was however able to avoid arrest.
Willie R. Williams, 25 is wanted on the following charges:
- Illegal use of a weapon for dangerous instrumentalities
- Resisting an officer
- Violation of a firearm free zone
- Criminal Trespassing
