UPDATE:  Sunset shooting suspect who barricaded himself inside a home has surrendered, according to police.  KLFY Rebeca Marroquin is live at the scene and on Facebook with all the latest information.

Just after 9 p.m. Saturday, authorities tell News 10 that suspect Jeremy Boss surrendered to police following a standoff that lasted several hours.

Just before 7 p.m., Sunset police received a call about a man armed with a shotgun, allegedly chasing a victim and threatening to shoot.

Sunset police arrived on scene as well as St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, who were called in for assistance.

Once they arrived, they say, the suspect barricaded himself inside his mother’s home on the 200 block of Boudreaux street. 

St. Landry Parish, SWAT, and Louisiana State Police were called in to negotiate with Boss to get him to surrender peacefully.

After a few hours, they say, Boss surrendered and was taken into custody.

We were there to ask him why he did what he did.

“People stealing my lyrics and f— crooked a— police officers.”

So in case you didn’t get that he said he did all of this tonight because of someone stealing his lyrics.

ORIGINAL: State Police responded Saturday evening to a home in Sunset after a man who was allegedly under the influence was being disruptive on his property.  

The home is located in the 200 block of Boudreaux Street, police say. 

A call around 6:30 p.m. Saturday came from a family member who could not get the subject under control and contacted authorities, police said.

When police arrived, they say, the subject fired shots in their direction.

Police returned fire, however no one was injured. 

The subject then retreated back inside his home where he is currently holed up with all the lights on and asking for cigarettes, police said.

Negotiations are ongoing, police say.
