NEW ORLEANS, La. (KLFY) – Police say no one was hurt after a trooper discharged his weapon inside his vehicle in the Uptown area of New Orleans late Thursday night.

The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Broadway and Green streets. According to Louisiana State Police, a trooper was in an unmarked vehicle near the intersection when a dark-colored vehicle parked nearby and a juvenile male tried to enter the trooper’s vehicle.

Police say the trooper fired his weapon and the teen returned to the dark-colored vehicle and fled the scene.

The teen was later seen walking in the area and was apprehended.He was booked into the Orleans Juvenile Justice Center on a charge of attempted carjacking. He was also booked on an outstanding burglary warrant from Orleans Parish.

The dark-colored vehicle and its driver is still at large, LSP says.

“This is still an active investigation and no other information is available at this time,” a statement from LSP said.
