According to Lafayette Fire Department officials, a fire broke out at a vacant house around 6 Monday morning.

LFD representative Alton Trahan says the house, on the 200 block of 2nd Street, has been vacant for about two years but was completely accessible to the public.

He says ‘squatters’ may be behind the fire.

LFD is still investigating.
