A number of vehicles in one Youngsville subdivision were burglarized on Monday. This took place in the Meadow Bend subdivision on Woodhaven Road.
Police Chief Rickey Boudreaux said one resident was able to catch the offenders in the act on surveillance video.
“They’re targeting unlocked vehicles. This is not a smash and grab group. It’s a group that’s looking for an easy opportunity. That easy fix to get into an unlocked vehicle and get into the car,” said Boudreaux.
He said the suspects are facing charges of car burglary and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
“It looks like it was a whole juvenile group that was doing this at that time. So far we’ve been able to have two confirmed vehicle burglaries,” said Boudreaux.
Police have one juvenile suspect in custody and expect more arrests.
He believes the juveniles came from out of town for a party prior to the incident.
Wyatt Graham moved into the fairly new subdivision in November.
Graham said it’s a surprise to hear this happened near his home.
“It’s pretty shocking considering we just moved in here a couple months ago and people are already coming out here stealing stuff,” said Graham.
Boudreaux urged residents to lock their vehicles.
“It’s very important that we not get complacent. We do live in a very safe place here, but crime is opportunistic and when they get the opportunity to make an easy grab by going into an unlocked car where there’s valuables they’re going to go in it,” said Boudreaux.
