High school students in Vermilion Parish have been taking part in government day.

The two-day event entailed more than 100 students from the seven schools in Vermilion Parish participating in mock trials and meetings. It’s the only program of its kind in the state.

Students were eager to learn about the different functioning jobs in the schools and judicial system.

Organizers said the purpose of the program is for the future leaders of the parish to get the opportunity to learn the government roles in hopes that they one day take the reins.
