The Vermilion Parish School Board held a special meeting tonight.

This comes after the November 15 meeting was canceled because four board members didn’t show up.

Two items on the Vermilion Parish School Board’s meeting agenda for tonight were to discuss the censure of Board President, Stacy Landry, and also reasons for him not rescheduling the November 15 meeting.

With Christmas music playing…

Superintendent of Vermilion Parish School District, Jerome Puyau, said, “Hopefully we’ll have a new school year and we move forward with this district and stop this fighting amongst yourselves.”

Superintendent Jerome Puyau ended tonight’s board meeting asking for peace… However, during the meeting, other board members could not get into the same spirit.

Board President, Stacy Landry, explained, “It’s my decision whether it’s heard and open or it’s held into executive.”

Laura Lebeouf, Vice President and board member, added, “It’s not, because I did not word it enter into executive session.”

“It’s not… it’s not your decision sweetheart. It’s my character,” added Landry.

In the beginning of the meeting, school board members voted to discuss the censure of Board President, Stacy Landry in executive session.

However, Landry was the one that decided he wanted to discuss the matter in public.

Landry says it was board member and Vice President Laura LeBeouf’s issue to address, but she denied saying the words “executive session.”

“The school system is not broken. The school system is thriving. This board is broken, and I will not take responsibility for it,” said Landry.

There’s also a runoff election this Saturday, December 8, for school board district d, between the current School Board President Stacy Landry, and his opponent, Dale Stelly.
