The Vermilion Parish School Board decided in a vote Monday to place its superintendent, Dr. Jerome Puyau on paid administrative leave.

The school board held a second special meeting this Monday evening. One of the topics on the agenda: Personnel matters. More specifically, investigating complaints against Superintendent Puyau.

Originally, putting Puyau on leave was not on the table, but board member, Kibbie Pillette, called for the motion.

Prior to voting, community members spoke up on the matter. Some in support of the decision, some in support of Puyau.

The end result, however, was that the superintendent will be on paid leave until the investigation is completed.

Assistant Superintendent Paul Hebert has been named interim superintendent until the board meets again next week.
