NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) – UPDATE: The Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Jessica Morgan, of Abbeville.
ORIGINAL: Two suspects are behind bars tonight facing second-degree murder and obstruction charges.
While investigating the suspicious death of a 27-year-old woman, Iberia deputies received conflicting stories and evidence at the scene, so detectives were called in the get some answers.
Major Wendell Raborn with the Iberia Parish Sheriffs Office says, “What they finally discovered after speaking to everybody involved is that the victim had been dead for at least two days before they managed to give us a call or even call for medical emergency. They were too busy trying to clean up the crime scene and hide the evidence of the crime.”
From information gathered at the scene, detectives were able to identify 23-year-old Taylor Maturin and 45-year-old Chad Viator as suspects in the drug overdose investigation.
“They admitted to helping obtain the illegal narcotics and helping the victim inject the narcotics”, the mayor said.
Maturin and Viator both have an extensive criminal history in Iberia Parish. Maturin adds second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
Viator adds accessory after the fact to second-degree murder and obstruction charges.
Maturin’s bond has been set at $257,500. Viator’s bond is $26,000.
