LAFAYETTE, La. (KFLY)—A massive effort to aid thousands across Acadiana would normally take months of preparation. But with little time to prepare and countless flood victims in dire need, KLFY and United way joined forces to make it happen.

But this effort couldn’t have been done without the hundreds of volunteers from near and far.

From dawn to dusk, the United Way warehouse and grounds in Lafayette were full of activity with volunteers young and old showing up to pitch in.

For some of the volunteers, the day was a couple of hours and others worked all day and then some.

Many volunteers said they planned on staying until they are no longer needed.

The call for other volunteers stretched across several states.

If you were not able to make it to the event today, the United Way donations sites will be open daily until further notice.

Flood victims who are in need of help are encouraged to call 211 to get supplies and assistance needed.
