After a nice stretch of weather, it appears thunderstorms will once again come into the forecast.
Wednesday will feature sunshine, but southeast winds will begin to pick up as a disturbance begins to work closer to the area. A severe weather threat could materialize across north-central and northeastern Texas tomorrow, as this system juices up the atmosphere.
The severe weather threat will shift into eastern Texas Wednesday night/Thursday morning.
By Thursday morning, thunderstorms will be ongoing across eastern Texas. This activity will begin to work towards Acadiana through the afternoon. Severe weather indices are not maxed out, like they were with the last system, but still look impressive. There will be some spin in the lower-levels of the atmosphere, as well as temperatures dropping respectably with height. This signals a threat for damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. Prime time to see storms will be during the afternoon hours. This system will not feature a strong low pressure system, such as with Saturday’s system, so winds out ahead of it shouldn’t be nearly as strong as the tropical storm force gusts we saw Saturday.
IMPORTANT…
Severe weather indices do not look nearly as impressive as they did with Saturday’s system. This is not always the best measure of a severe threat however. Saturday’s severe weather threat, which looked dangerous on paper, never materialized across Acadiana (but did in other parts of the southeast), while some events with lower indices do end up producing widespread severe weather reports. With Acadiana missing out the last two times, it’s always tempting to not take the threat seriously, but one should always respect the threat and be prepared for the worst possible scenario. Damaging winds, in excess of 60 mph, and tornadoes will definitely be possible on Thursday, so take precautions now!
