A low pressure center is strengthening across the Texas panhandle, increasing winds in the low-mid levels of the atmosphere. A surface cold front is situated across eastern Texas and this front is expected to work into Acadiana later this afternoon.
Rain chances will be increasing across Acadiana from 11am through 4pm. Storms will begin across western areas of the state by late morning/early afternoon, steadily working eastward through mid-afternoon. The rain will not last very long, but a narrow band of thunderstorms is expected to accompany the cold front.
Severe weather chances look lower across Acadiana as both atmospheric instability and wind shear look much higher across central parts of the state and especially northern Mississippi. A more pronounced severe weather episode could be possible in these locations. For Acadiana, our severe weather threat will be limited to a storm or two as our risk is in the “Marginal Level 1” category.
Storms should end by the evening hours, allowing for cooler and drier air to work into the area. Overnight lows are expected to be in the upper 40s/lower 50s by tomorrow morning. Nice weather expected Sunday and Monday before another system moves into the area by Tuesday, giving us another rain chance.
