LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Thousand of voters will cast their vote Tuesday and with only 12 voting machines, the Registrar of Voters is asking that residents be prepared and patient.
Election day just two weeks away and many residents are anticipating the big day and casting their votes early.
“Early voting beings Tuesday, October 25th through November 1st,” said Charlene Meaux Menard.
And with this year being a presidential election, Lafayette Parish Registrar Charlene Meaux Menard said her office is expecting a full house Tuesday morning.
“Four years ago, I don’t know the numbers off hand, but it was very, very busy. Very busy.”
Once voters arrive they will receive a number and be called accordingly. Meaux Menard said parking will be available at the Buchanan parking lot.
“Anyone voting Monday through Friday may park at our Buchanan Street parking garage fourth flood and above. Bring me the ticket and the registrar of voters office will validate your ticket for free parking.”
Meaux Menard urges voters to come prepared with a picture id and suggests studying the ballot before coming in.
“You must study your ballot. The law only allows three minutes for you in your voting booth OK, Be prepared, study your ballot. You only have three minutes in the booth,” said Meaux Menard.
Voters can also download the “geaux vote” app to help save time.
“You can bring up your sample ballot. You can do your whole ballot, bring it and you can visually transfer it to your computer that way it won’t take you the whole three minutes,” said Meaux Menard.
Early voting ends Tuesday, November 1st.
