ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY) – In St. Landry Parish, before you head out to the polls Tuesday there are a couple of things you’ll need to know.

Be sure to have proper identification and don’t forget there is a three minute time limit in the voting booth.

“It’s almost best to be familiar with who you’re going to vote for, so it will not take you longer than three minutes,” said St. Landry Parish Registrar of Voter’s, Cheryl Milburn.

Milburn says those who will need additional assistance must bring one of the following:

“A doctor’s certificate stating what’s your disability, a handicap mobility card will do, or the certificate that you get from the social security office,” said Milburn.

Milburn says about 5700 voters cast their ballots early–that’s out of the 60,000 registered voters in the parish, so all 94 precincts are expected to be busy.

Also, remember campaigning is not allowed within 600 ft. of the polls.

“Persons who walk into a precinct with a t-shirt that has a candidate’s picture or name on it, you’re suppose to turn the t-shirt inside out,” said Milburn.

The polls will be open from 6 a.m – 8 p.m. As long as you’re in line by 8, Milburn says you’ll be eligible to vote.

For additional voting information you can download the GeauxVote app, call the St. Landry Parish Registrar of Voter’s Office at (337) 948-0572, or visit the St. Landry Parish Registrar of Voter’s website.
