ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY)- In less than two weeks, three St. Landry Parish churches were destroyed in fires. The churches are facing a new challenge.

Where will services be held Sunday?

Pastor Kyle Sylvester is the Pastor of St. Mary Baptist in Port Barre. Pastor Sylvester says since the fire last week, services have been held in a building they’ve been able to rent on North Main Street in Opelousas. “We had Wednesday bible study this past Wednesday and we did have Sunday service as well.”

St. Mary Baptist has a congregation of about a hundred members.  The pastor says they all have so many emotions but they aren’t letting emotions distract them.

“Be sure you stay focused on what it is that you have been called to do. That’s what keeps you grounded your faith in God and what he’s called you do for the ministry,” Pastor Sylvester said.

The pastor of Greater Union Baptist says the plan is to hold services in a building being offered to them on Lincoln Street in Opelousas.

Pastor Harry Richard says the place won’t be hard to find. “It’s going to be obvious because of all the cars and whatever is out there,” Richard added.

Pastor Richard says Sunday’s sermon will probably be about God’s grace. “God’s grace is undeserved merit.  I know we don’t deserve this but he gives us something better than this; and that’s undeserved grace,” Pastor Richard said.

The Pastor of Mount Pleasant Church on Highway 182 says Sunday service will be held at 11 a.m. at Morning Star Baptist on Duson Avenue in Opelousas.
