Temperatures have been warm through the past 24 hours and we started off this Saturday in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees. A strong Arctic cold front is expected to work through the area later today, however, which will drop temperatures very quickly. Temperatures could drop some 20 degrees before the sun sets, with readings possibly in the upper 40s this evening. Factoring in a northwest wind in the 15-30 mph range, wind chill values could easily be in the mid-30s, so if you’re heading out for evening plans make sure you layer up.
With clearing skies tonight/tomorrow morning, temperatures expected to drop into the lower 30s with the possibility of a light freeze in some parts of Acadiana. Wind chill values could be in the lower 20s tomorrow morning! Even under full sun, temperatures struggling to reach 50 degrees Sunday afternoon. Northwest winds will continue to be breezy, keeping wind chills in the 30s through most of the day. Another light freeze possible tomorrow night/Monday morning.
Warming trend Monday and Tuesday ahead of our next cold front that will move in Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Expect another round of rain Tuesday night heading through Wednesday as the front works across the area. Another bout of cold air likely heading through the end of next week with a light freeze possible again next Thursday morning and a patchy frost by next Friday morning.
This colder pattern looks to continue through the end of the month as long range models continue to advertise a pattern which favors Arctic intrusions into the United States.
