LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – A woman is accused of attempted murder and several other charges after allegedly hitting an officer with her vehicle while fleeing from the police.

The incident happened around 1:20 this morning in the 100 block of Noel Drive.

Lafayette Police Corporal Paul Mouton said officers originally responded to the scene for a reported disturbance.

Officers located the suspect, Jennifer Shanahan, 37, of Lafayette, sitting in a silver car in the 3300 block of Johnston Street.

Shanahan reportedly failed to comply with the officers’ commands to exit the vehicle and drove back to the 100 block of Noel Drive.

“Once on Noel Drive, Shanahan stopped her vehicle in the roadway.  After multiple commands were given by officers for Shanahan to exit the vehicle, Shanahan placed her vehicle in reverse and accelerated,” Mouton said.

The car hit one of the officers in the legs and torso area, as well as a police unit that was parked behind Shanahan’s car.

The officer was treated at a local hospital. He has since been released.

Jennifer Shanahan was arrested for attempted first-degree murder, aggravated flight from an officer, resisting an officer, operating a vehicle while intoxicated for unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.

Mouton said Shanahan also had an arrest warrant for failing to appear to a court date.

Jail records indicate she is being held on a $31,000 bond.

The case remains under investigation.
