CANKTON, La. (KLFY) – Beverly Legeune was stranded in her vehicle for hours this weekend in Cankton as it filled up with water.

“I really didn’t think that I would make it,” said Legeune, “If the water would have came up any higher I would have drowned.”

Legeune was driving during the storm this weekend when she misjudged how high the water was on the road.

“My truck already started moving by itself and the water started filling up in my truck,” said Legeune.

She tried to break the windows and open the doors but the water was too high.

“I was already in the water for two hours and it was very cold,” said Legeune, “The water filled up to my neck.”

She said she has never been so fearful for her life.

“I just knew that God was going to take me, I was just so scared.”

Legeune said while she was sitting in her truck what ran through her mind was, “it was my time to go to Heaven.”

After several hours, with the help of numerous people, a man was able to open the door and get her out of the truck.

“They saved my life,” said Legeaune, “I’m so grateful to be waking up this morning and see another day.”
