An 84 year old woman was killed in a house fire Friday night, officials said.

Opelousas Firefighters were called around 10:17 p.m. to the house fire in the 600 block of Wayne Street, near Fern Street. Fire officials say upon arrival fire fighters had to battle heavy flames.

Once the fire was extinguished, inside the home they found the victim, who has not yet been identified.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office.
