BREAUX BRIDGE, La (KLFY) – In St. Martin Parish, Breaux Bridge Police are investigating after a body was discovered in a vehicle at the Oakdale Apartments on Tina St. late Thursday night.
“We haven’t had any kind of homicide for several years,” said Breaux Bridge Police Chief, Rollie Cantu.
Now the Breaux Bridge Police Department is investigating its first homicide of the year.
Around 10 p.m. Thursday, Chief Cantu says they received a call of two gunshots being fired.
“A couple of minutes later we got another phone call saying that there was a black male in a vehicle not responding and they saw that the person had been shot,” said Chief Cantu.
The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Miguel Edmond of Cecilia, and right now Chief Cantu says the motive behind the shooting remains unknown.
“I just couldn’t believe it cause it just happened so sudden,” said a woman claiming to be a close friend of the victim.
The woman lives nearby where the shooting happened. She didn’t want to be identified, but says Edmond was on the way to see her before his life was suddenly taken.
“I called him and I was like you can come see me and he said in a little bit cause I’m doing something right now,” said the woman, but Edmond never showed up.
“I tried calling his phone and he never picked up, so I tried texting him and he never texted back and that’s how I knew something had happened,” the woman explained.
Now she says she’s left with the vivid memory of the last conversation she and Edmond had two days ago.
“He told me that he’s trying to change his life around for his kids and stuff,” said the woman. “To the person who did this, you took a father away. He was a good person, he was a really good person.”
The homicide remains under investigation.
Chief Cantu ask that anyone who has any information on this case call the Breaux Bridge Police Department at (337) 332-2186. All calls will remain anonymous.
