Expressions of sympathy and donations for medical and living expenses are pouring in for an Abbeville Police officer who was shot in the line of duty, last Wednesday, during a routine traffic stop.

The unidentified female officer was struck once in the shoulder, according to Police Chief Billy Spearman, and was rushed to the hospital where it was determined she had sufferred a collapsed lung.

According to the Police Association of Lafayette #905, the officer is expected to be out of work for a long period of time, and will only collect 65% of her pay through workman’s comp.
