YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KLFY) – Irene Sinegal entered her home for the first time since the water in Youngsville receded.

She was kind enough to let KLFY come with her as she discovers the damage that’s been done.

“We tried to put as many things up high as we could but it still reached the  sofas and the bedroom,” said Sinegal, “We tried to save some of the stuff. Things were floating all over in the house, the water was coming through like it flows through a river.”

She showed us how high the water came in her home and how she tried to salvage a few items in hopes the water wouldn’t get to them.

She recalled the emotions that she was feeling as she put her personal belongings on higher surfaces.

“All I can do is cry,” said Sinegal, “Cry and scream because I was losing everything I had. We lost everything. It’s just like everything was taken away in a few seconds and it was nothing you can do. The water just kept gushing through. And I was like let me just take my kids and get away from here because we couldn’t save anything.”

She grabbed as many clothes as she could and stuffed them in trash bags, putting those bags in the bathtub hoping they would stay dry.

Monday she opened those bags for the first time.
