A Youngsville woman has been arrested and charged with Child Desertion and two outstanding warrants out of St. Landry Parish after police found a toddler abandoned in the street.

Rebekah Brown Lajaunie is now in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center with a bond of $255,000.

Police say, over the weekend, an anonymous person contacted authorities about a small unattended child walking in the 200 block of Cricklade Court. Officers arrived and located a 4 year old girl walking three houses down from where she resided.  Authorities say when they arrived at her residence, officers attempted to wake up the parent but got no response at the door.  Upon entering the residence, they discovered another child approximately 3 months old inside unattended.

Officers walked thru the residence and discovered Lajaunie inside the bathroom area passed out and intoxicated. After speaking with Lajuanie, police say she admitted to taking the prescription drug LexaPro while consuming alcoholic beverages. The office of child Services was contacted and took custody of the two minor children.
