CLAIBORNE PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting in Homer early Tuesday morning.
According to Homer Police Chief Van McDaniel, 19-year-old JeTerryious Burns was arrested Tuesday and charged for second-degree murder in the death of 24-year-old Ashton “Cutter” Nelson.
Nelson was found just after 12 a.m. near the intersection of Adams and Memphis Street by officers responding to a report of a shooting in the area.
Police say when they arrived at the scene, they discovered Nelson’s car abandoned car at the intersection, and later found his body about a block away on Norton Street.
Chief Van McDaniel said that three suspects were detained for questioning in connection with the case. Out of the 3 individuals, Burns was the only one arrested and police say the other two were released pending further investigation.
McDaniel also offered reassurance to the public that “the safety of our citizens are of paramount concern and importance.”
“I want the community to understand and know that peace and order has been restored to the community,” said McDaniel.
Louisiana State Police and the State Fire Marshals Office are assisting in the investigation.
