ANGOLA, LA (WAFB) -Two inmates at Angola were found dead in their cells early Thursday morning, according to officials.

The Louisiana Department of Corrections said it is waiting on the toxicology reports, but it is believed the deaths were the result of overdoses.

Officials said the inmates were both serving life sentences. They added they are not yet releasing the inmates’ names and are talking with family members.

Corrections officers conducted a “shakedown” of all cells and inmates following the discovery, according to DOC.

Officials said no other inmates were impacted.
