BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) – A man pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder just a moment before his trial was set to being.
Derek Davis will serve 25-years as part of the plea deal. Judge Beau Higginbotham is presiding over the case.
According to investigators, the incident happened in August 2014 on Morning Glory Avenue in Baton Rouge, which is not far from the LSU Lakes. The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Davis was pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving and arrested for DWI.
Investigators claim that Davis resisted arrest and a fight started between him and the officer.
Authorities said Davis tried to take the officer’s gun “while also threatening his life.” They added “fearing for his life,” the officer was able to draw his weapon and shot Davis multiple times.
Davis was arrested in September after he got out of the hospital.
