BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – A former police officer who was arrested in October on battery charges is in trouble with the law again, this time accused of impersonating an officer.

According to arrest records, Melvin Cosey, 33, of Hammond, showed a Baton Rouge Police Department badge at the 19th Judicial District Courthouse to get past security.

A deputy with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office reportedly asked Cosey if he was an officer, to which he allegedly said “Yes.” Deputies eventually found out BRPD fired Cosey in February.

He is charged with felony impersonation of an officer. Bond has not been set.

Cosey is accused of strangling someone in October. He was charged with two counts of domestic abuse battery in that case.
