BATON ROUGE, La. (KLFY)—Funeral Services have begun for the three Baton Rouge Law Enforcement Officers killed in Sunday’s Ambush.

Men and women of the Baton Rouge community gathered at the Resthaven Funeral Home to view the body of Officer Matthew Gerald.

First responders from around the state came out to show support for their fallen brother in blue.

Thousands of people from near and far made their way to the funeral home to pay their respects.

A friend of the family made the trip from Kentucky to say goodbye.

“My husband and Matt served together in the army and they kept in touch after Matt left the service. I got to know the Gerald family. We’d come down to visit them every so often.” Said Robin Linn.

Robin’s husband is overseas, so she attended Officers Gerald’s service in his absence.

Six officers were shot, and three of them fatally wounded. Residents say it seems the value of life has depreciated.

One Baton Rouge resident Sean Beauvais told KLFY, “There is a disconnect with the preciousness of life and what we owe to the people that protect us.”

Beauvais says from the death of civilians to law enforcement officers, the city has seen its share of pain for the past few weeks.

Officer Gerald’s funeral will take place in Baton Rouge on Friday, July, 22 at Healing Place Church.
