AVONDALE, La. (AP) — A man killed his girlfriend in front of Louisiana deputies Monday night, prompting them to shoot and kill him, authorities said.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto told news outlets that deputies arrived at the scene around 7:30 p.m., after a neighbor reported that a man was beating up a woman.
When deputies arrived, they found the couple arguing outside their home.
Lopinto said deputies saw the man grab the woman, hold a gun to her neck and shot her.
Deputies returned fire, shooting the man. Both the man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene.
Lopinto said deputies had been called to the home before for domestic disturbances, but details on those incidents weren’t immediately released.
Information on the couple also wasn’t immediately released. Authorities said the investigation was ongoing.
