BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) – LSU baseball is advancing to the Super Regionals with 5-2 victory over Rice to win the Baton Rouge Regional.

LSU lost to Rice on Monday night, 10-6, which forced the deciding game on Tuesday. However, the Tigers were able to spark a rally and beat Rice.

The Tigers trailed 2-0 through most of the game until a sac fly by Bryce Jordan in the bottom of the seventh scored Jake Fraley to cut Rice’s lead in half.

Greg Deichmann followed that up with a two-run homer, which was his 10th of the season, to dead center over the 405 foot mark to give LSU the lead, 3-2.

Rice would not be able to rally as the Tigers added two more insurance runs, including a solo home run by Papierski.

By winning the BR Regional, LSU set an SEC record with its 12th trip to Super Regionals.

The No. 8 overall seed LSU will host Coastal Carolina this weekend. Coastal Carolina beat North Carolina State to win the Raleigh Regional on Tuesday.
