NEW ORLEANS, La. (WWL-TV) – Essence Fest will be honoring pop icon Prince during the last night of the music festival, June 3.

A performance by Prince’s band, the New Power Generation, will kick off the closing night. They’ll be joined by R&B singers Marsha Ambrosius and Kelly Price, D-Nice and Doug E. Fresh.

A second line is also planned for the evening, with New Orleans natives Luke James, the Stooges Brass Band and the Roots of Music on stage.

ESSENCE Festival had a very special relationship with Prince, who headlined our 20th anniversary event in 2014 with a performance that was truly legendary,” stated a release from the festival.
