NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) — Northwestern State University will become the latest Louisiana university to sell beer at its football games.

The Natchitoches (NAK’-a-dish) school announced its plans for this football season on Friday.

The school will sell beer and alcoholic seltzers not only at football games, but at baseball and softball games starting next year.

Louisiana State University and three other Southeastern Conference schools plan to sell beer after that conference lifted its ban on alcohol sales. Lamar University, a Texas rival of Northwestern State in the Southland Conference, has also announced plans for beer sales beginning this fall.

Northwestern State Athletics Director Greg Burke says the school has been considering beer sales for several years, with surveys showing fans wanted it.

Sales will stop at the end of the third quarter.
