Officers arrested in alleged Knight family set up

An update on a story that’s shaking the Acadiana community. As we reported Sunday night an internal family battle for control of the multi-billion dollar Knight Oil Tools Empire has led to two arrests and warrants for arrests.

The struggle for power took a stunning turn Sunday night with criminal allegations that one brother turned on another.

Here’s what we know now; The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s office issued an arrest warrant for former CEO Mark Knight of Knight Oil Tools. Knight is accused of having drugs placed in his brother’s car then hiring two metro narcotics officers for $100,000 to arrest him. The two officers, one an employee with the sheriff’s office and the other a state trooper have been arrested.

Plus, there’s an arrest warrant for an employee believed to have helped. News 10’s Renee Allen has more details in this report.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office says the case is being referred to the 15th Judicial District Attorney, Keith Stutes, for prosecution.

Stutes notes that it’s been a long-term investigation with an expected considerable amount of information accumulated. “Certainly at this stage all that have been arrested is presumed innocent.”

Major Art LeBreton of LPSO explains that the case of two law men involved in a scheme believed to have been purposely planned and staged reflects poorly on those who do what’s right.  “I can speak for myself and many of the employees were shocked.  They’re disappointed,” says LeBreton.
