BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – As he travels Louisiana seeking support for his gubernatorial bid, Republican U.S. Rep. Ralph Abraham is spending less time in Washington and casting fewer votes than most of his colleagues.

Abraham had strong attendance in his first two U.S. House terms. GovTrack, an independent clearinghouse for congressional data, shows Abraham missed only 10 roll call votes out of 2,450 from January 2015 through September 2018.

But the data shows Abraham has missed nearly 39% of votes since he started running for governor in December.

He’s skipped votes on immigration, flood insurance and spending issues as he campaigns to unseat Democratic incumbent John Bel Edwards in the fall election.

Abraham says he’s serving constituents, even if he misses some votes. The Edwards campaign says Abraham isn’t earning his $174,000 salary.
