More than 100 people will serve on the committees combing through the Common Core education standards being used in Louisiana’s public school classrooms.

The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education confirmed the 101 members with a unanimous vote Wednesday and set a final timeline for the review meetings.

The Common Core standards are benchmarks of what students should learn at each grade level in English and math, adopted by more than 40 states.

In response to criticism of Louisiana’s use of the standards, lawmakers required a review with public meetings, legislative oversight and an up-or-down vote from Louisiana’s next governor.

The review panels – which include teachers, administrators, higher education officials and parents – must present final recommendations on what changes they want made to the standards by March 2016.
