LACOMBE, La. (AP) — Authorities say Louisiana deputies have shot and killed an armed man who pointed a gun at them while they were serving a protective custody order.
St. Tammany Parish sheriff’s Capt. Scott Lee tells WWL-TV that a Lacombe family on Wednesday requested the custody order for their son, who was in “mental crisis.” The order allows deputies to take the subject to an emergency room for evaluation. Lee says authorities were told the man had made threats and expressed suicidal tendencies.
He says three responding deputies entered the home and were confronted by the armed man. He says the deputies used a stun gun to no effect and the man raised his weapon, leading deputies to fire.
Authorities didn’t immediately release the identities of those involved. An investigating is ongoing.
