EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH (KLFY) – A 6-year old girl is dead after a three vehicle crash involving serious injuries Thursday afternoon in East Baton Rouge Parish.

The crash happened before 7:30 p.m. on May 26, 2016 at the intersection of Highland Road and Old Perkins Road.

State Police learned on Monday that 6-year old Ava Branstetter of Prairieville died from the injuries she sustained in the crash.

The initial investigation of the crash revealed that Jacque Gregory, 67, of Prairieville, was traveling westbound on Highland Road and failed to yield when he began to turn onto Old Perkins Road.

At the same time Karl Tiemann, 30, of El Paso, TX, was traveling eastbound on Highland Rd.

That’s when Tiemann’s vehicle struck the right side of Gregory’s, causing it to roll over onto the driver’s side.

Gergory’s vehicle then slid through the intersection and was struck again by a third vehicle.

Branstetter was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and was later pronounced dead.

According to State Police, she was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash and the cause is still under investigation.
