FORT POLK, La. (WKRN) – A Fort Campbell soldier with the 101st Airborne died Tuesday during a live-fire training exercise.

Army officials said it happened at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, Louisiana.

Both soldiers and the Department of Emergency Services responded to the incident immediately.

The soldier, whose identity was not immediately released, was transported to Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital at Fort Polk where he was later pronounced dead.

An investigation is ongoing. The soldier’s name is being withheld until next of kin is notified.
