BATON ROUGE, La. (KLFY)- May 29, 2020, UPDATE: Gov. John Bel Edwards said he will address Phase 2 of reopening the state’s economy next week.
During Friday’s press briefing, the governor said the state is on a positive trajectory to move forward with opening some of its industries.
“We are doing better, but we still have a long way to go,” Edwards said. “If we want to see continued improvement, we need to continue to do things that are smart.”
That includes following CDC health safety guidelines, state officials said.
Some good news, the state has seen a dip in hospitalizations with 714 cases. Edwards noted that there more than 2,000 COVID-19 patients hospitalized just a few weeks ago. As of Friday, there were fewer than 100 patients were on ventilators.

MAY 27, 2020, UPDATE: Gov. John Bel Edwards said there are 13 confirmed cases of multisystem inflammatory syndrome detected in patients under 19.
“I do want you to know that is in Louisiana,” the governor said during Wednesday’s press briefing.
One child has died from an MIS-C-related illness. Four children remain hospitalized as of Wednesday, May 27, Edwards said.
Symptoms in patients under 21 include fever, inflammation in at least two organs and the patient must have tested positive for COVID-19.
This month, the Department of Health and Hospitals has issued two statewide alerts to health care workers urging providers to report MIS-C cases to the state.
