LAVONIA, GA (WSPA) – 2 police officers were shot during a traffic stop in Lavonia, GA and the suspect is still on the loose.
According to Lavonia Chief Bruce Carlisle, one officer was shot in the shoulder and the other was shot in the hand and leg.
According to Greenville County dispatch says that Greenville resident Khari Anthony Dashaun Gordon is wanted in connection with the shooting.
Gordon is out on bond for an attempted murder charge in Greenville County.
The officers were arresting the driver after pulling over a stolen car when the shooting happened, according to Chief Carlisle.
Both officers are being taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for their injuries.
The shooting happened near the Zaxby’s restaurant on Jones Street in Lavonia, according to the chief.
St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital was on lockdown due to the search for the suspect.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Georgia Highway Patrol, and the FBI are assisting in the investigation.
