RICHLAND, Miss. (WJTV) – Four-year-old Abby Grace Butler was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago.

After months of chemotherapy, her mom and dad wanted to celebrate her last day of treatment and bought her a police officer’s uniform.

“She’s had a lot of experience with kind of first responders type people and then the movie Zootopia came out, and that just sealed in police with her,” says Abby’s mom, Sarah.

However, the uniform was not the only surprise for Abby.

“We went to our friend’s shop where there are usually a lot of police officers, and she made a little phone call, and some real police officer heard she was there, and it made her world,” adds Sarah.

“I was happy, and I was surprised,” says Abby Grace.

Officers Brandon Hollifield and Amanda Johansson from the Richland Police Department stopped by to put a smile on the face of a little girl who’s been through a lot.

“She actually was in the hospital for several weeks in May, which coming to the end of treatment you’re not expecting those kind of scary situations, but we’re just thankful when she comes through every time,” says Sarah. She hopes her daughter’s admiration for law enforcement carries on throughout her life.

“If my child is ever in trouble, I want her to know those are the people she can go to for help. And so we’re going to continue to encourage her. If she wants to take a career in police my heart might be a little worried so nights but I would support her 110 percent,” says Sarah.
