BETHANY, Conn. (WTNH) – A 93-year-old veteran received a special recognition. All of it having to do with some pretty impressive medals that he’s getting a second time around.

On this Memorial Day weekend, people all over the country are remembering the sacrifices made by those who’ve served our nation. News 8 was in Bethany at Veteran’s Memorial Park. It’s there on a wall that lists the names of veterans from Bethany you’ll find the name of James Robinson engraved.

It’s an honor to be on this wall but Mr. Robinson, now 93, received several others there Sunday. Among them, two bronze stars.

“He never made much of what he did but he made an incredible sacrifice to his country,” said Robinson’s son, also named James Robinson.

Robinson was a cook in the Navy, serving in the Seabees during World War II. His family tells us he served his country for five years and did his duty in the Philippines. Robinson had received the medals before back in the 40s but somehow during his journey back to the United States he lost his sea bag that had his medals inside them.

Robinson says he’s proud to have received his awards of recognition and members of his family tell us their proud of him. He enlisted at just 19 years of age, one of the youngest, one of his sons says, in his entire unit. They add it took about a year working with the Navy and friends to make this day possible.
