The dramatic rescue of a 10-month-old baby who was drifting out to sea has been captured on camera.
Baby Melda Ilgin was floating in an inflatable crib when she drifted a kilometre out from the shore in the Ayvacik district of Canakkale province, Turkey, on Friday 3 July, 2015.
The Turkish coastguard hauled Melda on board their boat before reuniting her with her mother. According to local news website BGN news, Melda’s parents had placed her in the floatation device in the water nearby to where they were, but a strong northern wind caused her to begin floating off into the sea.
