Births, graduations, anniversaries, deaths. Historic events, such as the birth of this country or the recent flooding experienced by thousands of Louisianans.

All are memorialized as days on calendars. Each remembered, celebrated, or lamented, by those whose lives were impacted in various forms on those days…whether as individuals, a community, or a nation.

One such date that changed forever the lives of families, individually, and of this country, collectively, is September 11, 2001. Many will remember it as a day when hateful acts led to buildings falling. But for most, it is a day when selfless sacrifice and true heroism arose.

On the 15th anniversary of the attack on America, the State Fire Marshal’s Office will remember and honor the thousands who died, including hundreds of first responders who perished while rescuing and securing the lives of others. They did so, not because they had to but rather because they chose to.

A ceremony focusing on Louisiana citizens who were personally impacted by those acts of terror, will be held at the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Sunday, September 11th, at 3:00 p.m.

Mike Lamana, this year’s guest speaker, lost his son, Lt. Michael Scott Lamana, during the attack on the Pentagon building in Washington, D.C.

The office is located at 8181 Independence Blvd. in Baton Rouge.

The public is encouraged to attend the event, which will have a reception immediately following the ceremony.
