BATON ROUGE, La. (WVLA) – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana said President Trump presented an optimistic vision for the United States in his State of the Union speech.
Senator Cassidy’s statement reads as follows,
“President Trump presented an optimistic vision for our country. With our tax cuts legislation already delivering bigger paychecks and better benefits for workers and families, I look forward to working with the president to expand America’s energy dominance, restore respect for the Constitution throughout the judiciary, and make our military second to none. As a doctor, I especially appreciate his desire to address out-of-control prescription drug costs and the need for a more open, transparent healthcare system. The president also discussed several issues where I believe we can find bipartisan agreement, including modernizing our nation’s infrastructure, improving border security, combating the opioid epidemic, and taking care of our veterans.”
“Dr. Cassidy also applauded President Trump’s recognition of Louisiana’s Cajun Navy founder Jon Bridgers and New Orleans Coast Guard aviation electronics technician Ashlee Leppert, both of whom attended the speech as special guests of the White House and were seated with First Lady Melania Trump.”
“The Cajun Navy honored the biblical command to ‘do unto others as you would have them do unto you,’” said Dr. Cassidy. “When floodwaters overwhelmed Louisiana in 2016 and Texas after Hurricane Harvey, the Cajun Navy rescued fellow Americans in danger using their own boats and supplies. I thank President Trump for recognizing these selfless heroes, as well as an outstanding member of the Coast Guard stationed in New Orleans. Our Coast Guard men and women always do incredible work, but we in Louisiana especially appreciate their help during recent natural disasters.”
