NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) – Around 11:45 Saturday night, Nebraska Punter Sam Foltz, former Michigan State Punter Mike Sadler and LSU Kicker Colby Delahoussaye were involved in a fatal crash, killing Foltz and Sadler.

“I heard about the two fatalities first,” said New Iberia Senior High’s head football coach Rick Hutson, “Then when I scrolled down on my phone and saw that [Delahoussaye] was in the accident as well my heart fell into my stomach.”

Delahoussaye managed to escape the fiery wreck with second-degree burns on his left leg, stitches on his head and bruises around his hips and chest.

The three were attending a weekend kicking camp in Wisconsin.

“I’m just really thankful that he was spared and I know it’s going to be an emotional recovery for him to get over the tragedy,” said Hutson, “But if anybody can get over it it’ll be Colby Delahoussaye because he’s just very strong mentally. There’s not doubt in my mind that eventually he’s going to come back from this.”

Delahoussaye is a New Iberia native and graduated from New Iberia Senior High in 2012.

“He’s a great young man,” said Hutson, “There’s no doubt in my mind that one day he’s going to be telling this story in front of a large audience and he’s going to accomplish some great things. We’re so thankful that he was spared and I know that there’s something great in store for him in the future”

Delahoussaye still has a year left of eligability at LSU.
