EUNICE, La. (KLFY)— The Old Glory Relay will be making its way through Louisiana as it approaches the last leg of the event.

The Old Glory Relay will be running the American flag across the country and according to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, will be crossing through St. Landry Parish on Oct. 25.

Guidroz said fifteen members of the Shreveport-Bossier chapter of Team Red White Blue (RWB) will be running 54-miles between Kinder and Opelousas along Highway 190 as part of the third annual Old Glory Relay.

The relay covers over 4,216 miles involving 62 teams and began in in Seattle, Washington on Sept. 11 and will end on Veterans Day in Tampa, Florida.

“This event serves a dual purpose: to honor the sacrifice of thousands of Americans who have fought for our freedom, and to make a public display of support for veterans as they return to their respective communities.” said Guidroz.

According to a news release, The Old Glory Relay is one of the largest annual fundraisers for Team RWB, a Veterans’ outreach group whose mission is to enrich the lives of Americans Veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity.

Guidroz said there are several active Team RWB chapters in Louisiana. Chapters can be found in Shreveport-Bossier, Lafayette, Fort Polk/Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Covington/Mandeville, and New Orleans. If you want to become more involved you can find out more at www.teamrwb.org.
